Pounds rutabagas (2 medium)
Method:
When shopping, look for rutabagas that are heavy, well-shaped (round.
1-1/2 POUNDS (2 MEDIUM) YIELD 4 SERVINGS; 60 CALORIES PER SERVING.
To Prepare: Wash rutabagas; pare thinly.
Cut into 1/2-inch cubes or pieces.
To Boil: Heat 1 inch water (salted, if desired) to boiling.
Add rutabagas.
Cover and heat to boiling; reduce heat.
Boil cubes 20 to 25 minutes, pieces 30 to 40 minutes or until tender; drain.
To Steam: Place steamer basket in 1/2 inch water (water should not touch bottom of basket).
Place rutabaga cubes in basket.
Cover tightly and heat to boiling; reduce heat.
Steam 25 to 28 minutes or until tender.
To Microwave: Place rutabagas (cubes) and 1/2 cup water in 1-1/2-quart microwavable casserole.
Cover tightly and microwave on high 15 to 18 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until tender.
Let stand covered 1 minute; drain.
