Pseudo Baked Beans

Bacon slices

Ketchup

To 3/4 c Sorghum or
Brer Rabbit syrup

Method:
Cut Bacon into 1/4" pieces and saute in large skillet.
Before bacon is crisp, add onions and cook til translucent.
Drain off bacon grease.
Add beans, ketchup, syrup, vinegar and barbecue sauce.
Stir.
When beans are bubbling, lower heat to slow simmer.
Simmer until bean mixture has lost its soupy texture; stirring often with a spatula to clean syrup off bottom of skillet.
Scrape syrup off spatula and mix back into beans.
When beans are the right consistancy (about 40-50 min), scrape bottom one last time and mix scaped syrup back into beans and remove from heat.
Pour beans into a baking dish for transporting to picnic.
Modification: Use 3/4 cup ketchup 1/4 cup hickory smoked Bar-b-que sauce when served with Bar-B-Qued ribs.
Note: If you really want to fool them, add some microwaved bacon on top and brown under broiler.
