Onions, chopped medium

Flour, hard

Shortening (optional)

Tomatoes, canned, chopped

Nutmeg (or mace)

Water
Salt and pepper to taste
Method:
Brown off the beef and onions in a medium copper.
Incorporate flour to make a roux.
Cook, stirring with paddle for 7 minutes to lose starch taste.
Add shortening only if needed Add remaining ingredients.
Adjust consistency and taste as necessary.
Ladle over toast.
