South African Bread

Serves:

Ingredients:


2 c Stone-ground whole wheat
Flour
2 ts Baking soda
1/4 ts Salt
1 T Brown sugar
2 c Buttermilk (1 pint)
1/4 c Vegetable oil
1/4 c Sunflower kernels
1/4 c Sesame seeds
1/4 c Coarsely chopped walnuts

Method:


In a large bowl, stir together flour, soda, salt and brown sugar.
In a small bowl, whisk together buttermilk and oil.
Stir liquids into flour mixture until well mixed.
Stir in sunflower kernels, sesame seeds and nuts.
Spoon batter into a greased 8x4 inch loaf pan.
Bake in a preheated 350F.
oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
Store in refrigerator up to one week or freeze.
