Smithfield ham, cut into
-julienne strips
Method:
A light fluffy biscuit surrounds Smithfield ham in these Colonial Appetizers.
Dijon-style mustard (optional) Mix flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until fine crumbs form.
Add buttermilk all at once and stir with a fork.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead twelve times.
Form dough into a 12 inch square about 1/4 inch thick.
Cut dough into 2 inch squares.
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Divide ham onto top of 18 squares.
Dot with Dijon-style mustard, if desired.
Top ham layer with remaining biscuit squares.
Pinch edges of each square together so that the biscuits stick together while baking.
Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
